इनसाइड ऑफ़ अ डॉग इट्स टू हार्ड टू रीड - ग्राउचो मार्क्स

महान अमेरिकी हास्य अभिनेता और टीवी स्टार ग्राउचो मार्क्स की आज पुण्यतिथि है. 2 अक्टूबर १८९० को जन्मे जूलियस हेनरी मार्क्स को उनकी प्रत्युत्पन्नमति के चलते आधुनिक समय के सबसे बड़े कॉमेडियन्स में शुमार किया जाता है.

उन्होंने अपने भाइयों के साथ एक फिल्म कम्पनी भी बनाई और कुल १३ फिल्मों का निर्माण किया. अपने जीवन में उन्होंने अपनी कुछ सनकों को सदा साथ रखा. वे बहुत ज़्यादा झुक कर चलते थे, अजीबोगरीब चश्मा और एक बेढब मूंछ धारण किया करते थे. उनका यह लुक अपने आप में एक कल्ट बन गया था और “ग्राउचो ग्लासेज़” उन्हीं की इस कल्ट इमेज का परिणाम था जिनका निर्माण बाकायदा एक उद्योग की सूरत ले चुका है. 

१९ अगस्त १९७७ को उनका निधन हुआ. उनकी स्मृति में उनके कुछ शानदार और बेहद विख्यात उद्धरण पेश करता हूँ –

“Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.” 

“I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.”
